DRIVING YOUR WORKFORCE TO GET ON BOARD WITH AI

Automatic Intelligence (AI) is one of the most impactful technologies the business world has seen.  It’s going to affect almost every industry sector with its ability to automate systems, transform data and potentially create less labour-intensive processes.  AI isn’t going anywhere, and if your company hasn’t yet implemented some form of AI, it probably will soon.

As we all know, technology generally requires someone to be the driving force behind it, to know what’s really going on and AI will be no different.  AI won’t work without a capable person/s managing it.  AI can lead to a lot of difficulties in the workplace in terms of employee engagement. It can be challenging for employees to get on board with it. WHY???

  • Employees are afraid of new technology and the initial teething problems associated with it

  • They might see this as just another thing to add to their already busy workload

  • Change is sometimes not embraced and is AI going to shake up or ruin their existing routine?

  • Are their jobs at risk with such technology – will they still be required?

Here are some thoughts that might help when introducing AI into the workplace:

Don’t skip over the explanation of why your organisation is embracing AI – take the time to explain and educate your employees why you are making the choices you are making.  It will help get their support of the changes.

Be transparent – if there is a chance AI will lead to a reduction in the workforce, find a way to convey this tactfully.

Don’t expect too much too soon – Technology can take time to implement and understand. Your employees may also take time to really understand the technology and how to utilise it effectively.  You may have employees who are uncomfortable with change, and it may take longer for those people to embrace it.   New technology implementations can be some of the hardest for employees to accept but try to keep that introduction a positive one.

Keep AI as personal as possible – people, aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet.  They are human beings that help your company run and contribute to your culture.  When introducing AI to your employees, focus on the personal benefits it offers.  For example – show your Settlements Team just how quickly AI can sort your customer data and how much easier this will make their lives.  They will soon see how AI could eliminate tons of boring paperwork for them.  Focus on how AI not only helps you but also your employees.  Creating a positive demonstration will make it easier for getting everyone on board.

So, let’s not put the brakes on when it comes to AI, we are all in this together.  Let’s embrace it!
